My Self Publishing updates, Goodreads, Authonomy, Author interviews and new lower prices for ‘My Alien Self: My Journey Back to Me’ on Amazon kindle

OK, so I gave my e-book memoir ‘My Alien Self: My Journey Back to Me’ away for free in August for five days, through Amazon kindle. It was downloaded by over 1200 people, which is really pleasing as it means my story is getting out there to people who generally may not have bought it. This is particularly important for me, since I want to show people what mental illness is like, how destructive stigma is, and also give them a jolly good read – yep I’m a big head!

I aimed my prices to match those of my immediate competitors and have seen a steady flow of sales since the freebie offer. However, it is not nearly enough for me! It is really important for me that I get my story to more people.

So, I have taken part in author interviews when invited, I have added my book to various websites, Authonomy, Goodreads and Your Book Authors. I had my book reviewed by people in the field of mental health whose opinion counts. I’ve had wonderful reviews coming in, most of which are 5* which is marvellous (and great for my self esteem of course) And, I have advertised on a non-book related website. All of these things help – they really do – look me and my book up on google and I am getting noticed. I am also very active on facebook, twitter and my own blog, and consider myself an ‘approachable author’ since I chat with many people and continue to campaign against mental illness stigma and raising awareness of mental health conditions and treatments.

Still it isn’t enough. And without the backing of a publisher, I have to keep thinking.

So, I have decided to trial a price drop! As below:

I hope that the new prices will open up the opportunity for more people to purchase my memoir who may not have been able to before, due to low income or other reasons.

I will let you know how I get on with that, and how long I will offer the lower prices for, as I haven’t fixed a date yet.
